Two new almost identical WellSpan regional hospitals at opposite ends of York County were designed that way with purpose as they begin serving about the same distance from York. Shrewsbury WellSpan Hospital opened for business March 10 and Newberry WellSpan Hospital, cutting a ribbon March 11, plans to open in the next few weeks.
A footprint of 10 treatment areas associated with an emergency department and 10 inpatient areas surround services that include CT scanning, ultrasound and lab services. It’s the easy access and small scale of a neighborhood urgent care with the capability of a hospital.
On March 11, Dr. Nicholas Bertoni, medical director for WellSpan Shrewsbury, Newberry and Carlisle Hospitals, was giving a tour of the new hospital in Shrewsbury while still riding a wave of accomplishment of the first hospital opening the day before after much work and planning.
