Ferris State seventh in national standings

BIG RAPIDS – Following an outstanding fall sports season, Ferris State University is currently listed seventh in the nation in the final fall Division II LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Standings.
The LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in NCAA Championships.
The Bulldogs tallied 247 points in the fall season based on finishes in the fall sports of football, volleyball and women’s soccer. All three teams reached the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen or beyond with the Bulldogs claiming the NCAA Division II Football National Championship along with a national semifinal appearance in women’s soccer.
Ferris State received the maximum score of 100 points for winning the D2 football championship and recorded 83 points in placing tied for third in women’s soccer. FSU also generated 64 points in volleyball, tying for ninth place in the country following a regional runner-up performance.
The Bulldogs were the only school in the country this fall to reach regional championship games in the three fall sports of football, volleyball and women’s soccer. FSU completed back-to-back national championship runs in football, reached the D2 National Semifinals for the first time in women’s soccer and advanced to the title match in the NCAA Midwest Regional in volleyball.
Overall, a total of 155 schools on the Division II level recorded at least 25 points in the fall campaign. There are more than 300 total NCAA Division II schools in the country. The fall sports season consisted of finishes in football, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country along with women’s field hockey.
Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA’s website at www.directorscup.org. In addition, more information can be found online at www.thedirectorscup.com.
