LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The La Crosse Sport Show is preparing for its 47th annual event at the La Crosse Center. Campers and boats are being put into place and vendors are putting the finishing touches on their stands.
Show manager Chris Navratil says along with the usual campers, boats, food, and gear there is always some new things for people to see every year.
“We’ve got a lot of great new products that are down here, and a lot of new vendors. When I say there is something for everyone down here, there truly is. We’ve got a lot of fishing and hunting seminar speakers. We’ve also got the parakeet landing and the trout pond. There’s really something for the entire family to come see and do,” says Navratil.
A.J. Frels of Explore La Crosse says the outdoors theme of the event has brought in thousands of people each year from many states and La Crosse’s landscape helps bring them to the event.
“The waterways that we have, the bluffs, the topography that we offer makes the La Crosse region truly a recreational playground for a variety of different activities. A show like this, even if you’re not buying something or coming here to do that recreation now, it will put that thought in people’s minds about what to do when they come back here,” says Frels.
Frels says the show helps the city’s tourism numbers at a time of year where it is very important.
“This is a soft time of the year for our hotels and lodging properties throughout the whole region. To be able to boost their overnight stays is a big help. It’s a shot in the arm that we’re always looking for in this soft season for the tourism industry,” says Frels.
The show runs from Thursday to Sunday.
