What travelers need to know about the possible government shutdown

Wine lovers, architecture buffs and art history fans will now have an easier time than ever getting to one of Europe’s buzziest travel destinations.
Starting in May 2026, Delta will launch its first-ever daily nonstop service to Porto, Portugal (OPO) from New York-JFK, and it’s just in time to take advantage of its spot on many of the world’s global hot lists.
Named one of Travel & Leisure‘s Readers’ 15 Favorite Cities in Europe of 2025 as well as Time Out‘s 50 Best Cities of the World for 2025, Porto stands out for its overall beauty, culinary scene and happiness quotient (they’re a “gold city” in the Happy City Index.)
In a recent release, Delta shared that it’s part of a wider expansion plan in response to growing U.S. interest in tourism to Europe’s cultural capitals.
“Delta’s new nonstop service from JFK to Porto is part of seven new European routes launching next summer, giving customers even more opportunities to experience Europe and enjoy our award-winning service and premium onboard experience,” said Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta.
“Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway,” said Baldoni.
The airline has already increased offerings to the Iberian Peninsula in recent years, including daily year-round service from New York-JFK to Lisbon and seasonal daily service from Boston.
