The 15th edition of the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup is set to commence in South Africa, continuing the biennial tradition of this prestigious youth cricket competition. Sixteen teams from around the globe will engage in intense competition, showcasing their talent in the 50-over one-day international format.
U19 World Cup 2024 to begin on January 19
The tournament inauguration is scheduled for Friday, January 19, with Ireland facing the United States of America (USA) and South Africa taking on the West Indies in exciting opening encounters. The group stage will run until January 27, leading into the Super 6 stage, comprised of two groups determined by the top three teams from each initial group.
The semi-finals are scheduled for February 6 and 8, setting the stage for a thrilling climax. The culmination of the tournament will be witnessed in Benoni on February 11, where the final match will determine the ultimate champion.
To add an extra layer of competition, the 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four, engaging in a single round-robin format. The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super 6 stage, while the fourth-placed teams will compete in a 16th-place playoff.
In the Super 6 stage, Group A teams will join forces with Group D teams, and likewise, Group B and C teams will combine to form another group. Each team will carry forward their accumulated points, wins and net run rate from the initial group stage. The Super 6 stage will include a further two matches against teams from their partner group, but in different positions (e.g., A1 playing against D2 and D3, B2 against C1 and C3).
