— Remember when KaVontae Turpin belittled Troy Aikman’s critiques of the receivers’ routes, basically saying he didn’t care what the Hall of Famer “fake-thinks?” Saturday, Turpin explained dropping a perfect sideline pass late in the game by saying he thought he was out of bounds anyway. Said he’d have to look at the film. Wonder what he’ll fake-think when he sees it.
— Trevon Diggs confronted WFAA-TV′s Mike Leslie — who’d criticized the cornerback’s execution on a play — by saying, “You don’t know football.” Gotta play neutral. Can’t vouch for Leslie’s football acumen. Diggs’, either.
— The Cowboys couldn’t have found Brock Purdy with an APB. Either he stood patiently in the pocket waiting for George Kittle to ditch poor Donovan Wilson, or he made like Lamar Jackson and ran through the Cowboys like they were Pop Warner refugees.

— How is Tyrique Stevenson not a Cowboy? When the ball was snapped on the final play of the Chicago-Washington game Sunday, the Bears’ cornerback still had his back to the line of scrimmage, arms raised, taunting Commanders fans. Late to the Hail Mary play, he tipped Jayden Daniels’ pass to former Cowboy Noah Brown for the touchdown. “Notes taken,” Stevenson tweeted afterward. Here’s a thought, Tyrique: “Just play football.”
Tyrique Stevenson was spotted mocking Commanders fans mid-play that resulted in a hail mary TD 😳

— Remember when trading Dan Quinn for Mike Zimmer seemed like a good idea?
— Story time: Back in the day, when yours truly typed up extravagantly long features for SportsDay and only made the paper a couple times a month, the job occasionally required a one-on-one with Jerry Jones.
He always cooperated.

Wasn’t until much later, after I became a columnist in 2000, that the relationship soured to the point that he might not be so enthusiastic. Can’t imagine why. I mean, I’m the one who nicknamed AT&T Stadium “JerryWorld,” in honor of his Disneyesqe inspiration. Could have been all the punchlines he’s occupied in my copy all these years.

Anyway, I was in his office one day dutifully taking notes for some forgotten feature as Jerry tried to make a point. Contrary to what you might think, he was even more convoluted at 52 than he is at 82. Couldn’t make sense of anything he was saying that day. Neither could he.
He’d walk around his desk, hands working, as if he were trying to pull thoughts out of thin air. He’d start and stop, start and stop, each time asking me not to use that quote. Finally, seemingly exhausted, he asked how it was all sounding.
“It doesn’t sound like anything, Jerry,” I said, a little too candidly, probably.

Come to think of it, maybe that’s when it all started to go south.
