Oregon women dominate Oregon State early, cruise to victory

EUGENE – The Oregon and Oregon State women’s basketball teams resumed their rivalry Wednesday night, resulting in a dominant 96-73 Ducks’ victory at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks controlled the first game between the schools since 2023. Oregon (10-0) jumped out to an early lead that gradually swelled until it became apparent that the Beavers (5-4) could not keep up with the Ducks’ relentless small-ball pace.
Oregon shot 74% in the first half to build a 57-27 lead. The Ducks cooled slightly in the second half, hitting 68% (38 of 56), including an 8 of 10 performance from three-point range.
Oregon State shot a solid 43% in the first half, but 14 turnovers led to 21 points for the Ducks. The Beavers played better in the third quarter, but not nearly enough to give them a reasonable shot at digging out of a 30-point hole.
OSU finished the game at 48% (26 of 54) shooting but committed 24 turnovers, which led to 31 points for the Ducks.
Oregon guard Katie Fiso scored 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and led the team with a career-high 14 assists. Forward Mia Jacobs added 21 points with six rebounds. Forward Sarah Rambus scored 18 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
Guard Jenna Villa hit 9 of 13 shots and scored 27 points to lead Oregon State. Tiara Bolden scored 16 and Kennedie Shuler scored 14 points with five assists for the Beavers.
The Ducks took a 16-9 lead six minutes into the game after hitting seven of their first eight shots. Oregon his 12 of 15 shots during the opening quarter to take a 31-14 lead.
Oregon State shot 50% in the second quarter but could not prevent the Ducks from routinely creating open looks for scorers. Forward Sarah Rambus scored 10 points in the quarter on 5-of-6 shooting to lead the Ducks. Oregon won the quarter 26-13 to take a 57-27 halftime lead.
Fiso finished the first half with 15 points and seven assists.
The third quarter told a different tale. The Beavers played with a different level of tenacity on defense, forcing the Ducks into seven turnovers. On offense, Oregon State took its turn getting hot from the field, hitting 58% of its shots as the Beavers trimmed the deficit to 72-51 heading to the fourth quarter.
Oregon reset itself in the final quarter, shooting 73% to close out the game.
