This week, passengers visiting Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas became the first to experience Great Life Lagoon, a brand-new, 28,000-square-foot heated pool that’s now officially open—and included. It’s the first of several island upgrades rolling out over the next year, and it marks a shift in how Norwegian is thinking about its beach-day experience.
The new pool is designed to feel resort-like. There are two swim-up bars, plenty of space to spread out and dedicated aquatic features for kids, plus a nearby splash pad that makes it easier for families to settle in for the day. For guests who love Great Stirrup Cay’s beaches but prefer the predictability of a pool, this fills a long-standing gap.

And it’s not the only change on the way. Norwegian is also preparing to open a new cruise ship pier later this winter, along with a welcome plaza and tram system designed to make getting to different zones easier and more accessilbe—especially on busy sail days.
Looking ahead, summer 2026 will bring one of the biggest additions yet: Great Tides Waterpark, a new, optional attraction with 19 waterslides, cliff jumps, a flowing river and even a glowing grotto bar. It’s clearly aimed at guests who want to turn their island day into something more active—or more memorable—than a standard lounger-and-cocktail setup.
There’s also a perk for cruisers sailing next year: Norwegian’s Free at Sea Plus package will include an unlimited open bar at Great Stirrup Cay, making the island feel more seamlessly connected to the onboard experience.
