Joe Rogan is never one to shy away from hot-button topics. Whether it’s the great debate over artificial intelligence (AI) or addressing conversations that would be uncomfortable for most, he’s an open book. On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the host spoke about one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Tom Cruise, and offered a candid assessment of the Mission: Impossible star.
Cruise, who’s widely known for doing his own stunts, including in the recent hit Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, has drawn high praise for pushing the limits in improbable ways. That mindset, and his own drive as an actor, were enough to earn high praise from Rogan, who admitted that Cruise is “nuts” in the best way possible.
Why Joe Rogan Thinks Tom Cruise Is ‘Nuts’
When Rogan calls Tom Cruise “nuts,” he’s not mocking him — he’s admiring him. Rogan’s comments are a mixture of respect and awe for an actor who’s never opted for the “safe” or “easy” route in his job. Instead, Cruise has been seen dangling from planes, scaling skyscrapers and performing free-fall jumps that very few others in Hollywood would agree to, instead passing the task on to a stunt double.
During an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, author and former member of the United States Navy SEALs Jack Carr joined the show, and the two discussed Cruise. Rogan specifically highlighted a scene, which Carr points out is from the 2018 film Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
“That’s why guys like Tom Cruise are so nuts, because he does his own stunts,” Rogan said. “He’s worth a billion dollars, and he jumps off roofs. He jumps from rooftop to rooftop and breaks his f—ing ankle…shatters his ankle and then keeps running. You can see the ankle’s shattered. You can see the ankle hit the side, and see the ankle give in…and then he lands on it, he just hobbles off running and saved the scene.”
Carr reveals that he recently rewatched the movie to see if he could identify which parts were filmed after Cruise broke his ankle, and admitted he couldn’t.
Cruise, who’s 63 currently, isn’t showing signs of slowing down or changing his approach to performing stunts, either. His incredible stunt work on Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning was heavily documented with behind-the-scenes clips and various looks at several eye-opening moments.
