Who’s in the know on Tom Cruise’s secret nickname? Glen Powell, for one.
Powell, 37, expressed surprise in a new interview with IndieWire upon hearing that people didn’t know how his Top Gun: Maverick costar is referred to as “TC.”
“Everybody in his life calls him that,” said the Running Man star of Cruise, 63.
“He’s TC,” added Powell. “I’ll call him Cruise, TC. But yeah, TC is how most people refer to him.”

Cruise and Powell have remained close since starring together in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, with the Mission: Impossible star showing his support as recently as last week, joining Powell at a Running Man screening.
“Another great night out with my friends at the movies! You guys crushed it, congratulations! I laughed, was on the edge of my seat and ate way too much popcorn,” Cruise captioned that Instagram post.
Powell has also been among the recipients of the Oscar nominee’s famed holiday coconut cake.
“I got to see him the other night,” Powell told IndieWire. “It’s so wild the journey he and I have kind of been on together. From starting the journey of Top Gun and riding that wave through COVID and figuring out what the theatrical landscape would look like on the other side of it. How he’s continually showed up for me in my life as a friend and a mentor — and really, just looking out for me.”
The Chad Powers creator-star added that it’s “hard to fathom,” as most Hollywood “stars don’t do that, right? They don’t send the elevator back down and take care of people, for the most part. He’s just a very rare type of person who really just wants everybody around him to win.”
Powell leads the Edgar Wright-directed The Running Man, costarring Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Jayme Lawson, Colman Domingo and Josh Brolin. An adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel and remake of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, it’s in theaters Nov. 14.
