Different: Transatlantic Time Travel Flights In 2025

Who doesn’t love time travel? This is the concept of arriving at your destination airport before you have left, which is possible because the time zone change is greater than the block or scheduled time. It is particularly intriguing when applied to long-haul or transatlantic travel.
The most renowned examples involved Concorde. BA001 departed Heathrow at 10:30 and arrived in New York JFK at 09:25 local time, while AF002 left Paris CDG at 10:15 and arrived at 08:15. They are long gone.
Transatlantic time travel: 2025
Using Cirium Diio information to examine every scheduled flight between Europe, Africa, the Middle East, etc., and the Americas indicates just half a dozen examples exist in 2025, as summarized below in alphabetical airline order.
Readers may not like the inclusion of the Greenland example, as they may not consider it genuinely transatlantic. Nonetheless, it is there as it is so different, rarely discussed, and mainly uses the rare 37-seat Dash 8-200 (shown below) to an airport with a sub-4,000-foot runway. It has a maximum block time of 1h 50m.
When every time-traveling flight on the following routes is combined, there will be 387 departures in 2025. They are so rare that only one in every 833 transatlantic flights will operate this way.
Notice Icelandair from Keflavik to Seattle and Vancouver. Only one in five departures to Seattle will time travel this year, rising to almost a third for Vancouver.

How about arriving when you leave?
Icelandair has had flights to Portland, Oregon, since 2015. A decade later, virtually every take-off will arrive after they leave, with the most common schedule seeing aircraft leave Iceland at 16:50 and arrive on the West Coast at 17:55 local time.
Given the additional block time compared to Icelandair’s Vancouver and Seattle routes, no Portland flight time travels. However, on just two occasions in 2025 (yes, twice!), passengers arrived at the same time as they left, based on the scheduled time.
On January 1 and 3 only, passengers on the 757-200ERs operating flight FI665 left Keflavik at 16:50 and got to Oregon at 16:50 local time.
