Multiple cruise passengers were left wading through water in their cabins last week due to flooding on an MSC Cruises voyage.
The incident occurred on board the MSC Seaview cruise ship on Monday, Jan. 12, the cruise line confirmed to USA Today. According to CruiseMapper, the ship was sailing off the coast of eastern Brazil on a South American voyage.
Video footage shared by Brazilian outlet UOL seemingly shows passengers frantically collecting their belongings as water continues to fill their staterooms. The water even continued out into the hallway, where travelers are seen traversing the water while barefoot or in sandals. In one clip, crew members operate a blue shop-vac.
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, a representative for MSC Cruises shared that the company is “deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to our guests as a result of a leak on the ship.”
“A fault was detected in a water line and unfortunately this resulted in water entering a number of guest cabins and the public corridor,” the statement continued. “The fault was quickly isolated and resolved by our technical teams and all affected cabins were deep cleaned.”
The company says it communicated to impacted guests at all times that “there was no risk to guest safety.”
UOL reports passengers were first alerted to the incident around 7:30 a.m. local time after crews gave a “fire” alert.
