Boston is in for a holiday week of mixed weather, with some warmer temperatures and rain preceding a chilly and dry Thanksgiving Day, according to National Weather Service forecasts.
“To start the week off, we’ll see pretty nice, pretty warm — warmer than we’ve been — weather Monday and Tuesday,” said NWS meteorologist Kyle Pederson. “And it should be on the sunnier side Monday. Tuesday looks cloudy, unfortunately.”
The week is expected to kick off with a high close to 50 degrees on Monday and sunny weather before clouds begin to move back in during the night, forecasts show.
Tuesday may a see a warmer high in the low to mid-50s and cloudy weather, NWS forecasts. A chance of rain kicks in later Tuesday evening.
“Looks like our next chance for rain is Tuesday night into Wednesday,” said Pederson. “It doesn’t look like a big system by any means, just another quick dousing of rain.”
The rain should be gone by midday Wednesday, Pederson said, with not much precipitation after that.
“But there really shouldn’t be too many or any travel impacts around the southern New England for the Thanksgiving travel time,” said Pederson.
Wednesday looks to be the peak of the warmer weather, NWS shows, with a forecasted high of 60 degrees for Boston.
“Then a cold front comes for Thursday, and the highs drop back into the mid 40s,” Pederson said, noting the cold front is forecasted to “bring wind.”
The end of the week is expected to mostly sunny and clear headed into the weekend, forecasts show.
“At least Thanksgiving looks dry,” Pederson said. “It’ll be a little breezy. Looks like we have gusts of 20 to 30 miles per hour. And what that, the highs in the 40s are probably going to feel more like upper 30s on Thanksgiving.”
NWS forecasts show highs dropping further to the low 40s and lows reaching the 20s Friday and Saturday, as strong gusty winds continue to blow through.
