Fragrance Group and Global Premium Hotels—both controlled by billionaire Koh Wee Meng—are ramping up their hotel footprint with the opening of three new hotels in Singapore by 2027 to tap into the travel boom.
Koh’s companies will have an additional 1,347 rooms when the projects are completed within three years, boosting its total to 3,547 across 28 hotels by 2027. The three new hotels will be managed by French hotel chain Accor, which has a long standing partnership with Fragrance and Global Premium.
“These new properties will allow us to continue curating enriching experiences for our guests and further diversify our hospitality offerings in Singapore,” Koh, 61, founder and chairman of Fragrance, said in a statement. “As we expand our portfolio, we are committed to delivering memorable stays that cater to the evolving needs of travelers.”
Of the three, the biggest will be that of Movenpick Singapore, with 808 rooms. Located in the Tanjong Pagar on the edge of the Raffles Place central business district, it will be the largest Movenpick hotel in the Asia Pacific when it opens in 2027. In the same property, a 37-room Movenpick Living Singapore will open for business and leisure travelers seeking extended stays.
Koh’s group will also open in late 2025 a 502-room Handwritten Collection hotel on Waterloo Street near the Orchard Road shopping precinct. This is the second opening for the brand after the launch of Hotel Faber Park Handwritten Collection late last year.
With a real-time net worth of $1.6 billion, Koh started the hotel business back in the mid-1990s, building the first Fragrance Hotel in Singapore’s bustling red-light district when he was 33. Today, the bulk of Koh’s fortune is still tied to his hotel interests in the Lion City, Australia and the U.K.
