Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian has always been very vocal about supporting women in sports. He is often seen speaking for equality in the world of sports. Ohanian has also heavily invested in Angel City FC and ATHLOS NYC to motivate the next-gen female athletes towards the sports. Recently, Aryna Sabalenka’s fitness coach Jason Stacy was spotted donning a yellow T-shirt with Alexis Ohanian’s famous caption, “Everyone watches women’s sports“. Echoing the same message?
In May this year, Ohanian posted a clip of renowned soccer star Alexia Putellas and captioned that post with “Everyone watches women’s sports.” Then, in the same month, he shared a clip of Caitlin Clark on his X handle with the same caption. So, that’s how it started, and we can now strongly conclude that both of them have joined hands to become strong advocates for women’s sports.
Ohanian’s journey from tech entrepreneurship to becoming an advocate for women’s sports highlights his visionary mindset and dedication to creating more opportunities for rising stars in women’s sports. It is quite interesting to see Sabalenka’s coach channeling the same message during her SF match at the US Open, and fans are happy to see Aryna Sabalenka‘s team taking this stand.

Previously we heard Sabalenka say, “I’m not someone who watches too much tennis. I prefer to watch men’s tennis rather than women’s tennis. I feel like there is more logic, and it’s more interesting to watch.” The Belarusian tennis star raised quite a few eyebrows at that time with her comments on women’s tennis. Later on, she was even forced to come up with an explanation saying, “I didn’t mean to disparage women’s tennis.” Talking about controversies, well, just a couple of days ago, her fitness coach was in the headlines for donning a hat from a pro-women brand.
Aryna Sabalenka’s coach sparks a new controversy at the US Open with his “XX-XY Athletics” hat
This brand has faced several bands from various social media platforms for its alleged ‘transphobic’ promotion. Aryna Sabalenka’s fitness coach, Jason Stacy faced quite a few backlashes from the fans for his support towards this controversial pro-women brand. However, this isn’t the first time that Stacy has been spotted wearing the ‘XX-XY’ hat. Previously during the 2024 Cincinnati Masters, we saw him wearing the same.

For those who are unaware, XX-XY Athletics is a sportswear brand that styles itself as a supporter of branding women in sports in particular. It was founded by a retired artistic gymnast and ex-Levi’s president, Jennifer Sery. Its mission is to “protect women’s sports and spaces” and maintain a level of “fairness” by opposing transgender presence in women’s sports. However, the brand has faced a lot of criticism in recent times and some people think the message is based on bigotry and dislike of transgender people.
Although Aryna Sabalenka has not made any comments on whether she agrees with the message promoted by this brand, she has liked an IG post from the brand that brought attention to her fitness coach. However, Stacy isn’t the only person from the tennis world who has shown his support for opposing the inclusion of trans women in women’s sports. Previously we also saw tennis legends like Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova also raising their voices on protecting women’s spaces. What do you think about these bold stands from Aryna Sabalenka’s team?
