LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The City of La Crosse and American Cruise Lines have started a new partnership.
The new 10-year docking agreement will see American riverboat cruise ships make their return to La Crosse after spending the last three years docking in Winona.
“It’s really great to have them back. We’ve worked well in the past with them, and I’m sure we’ll continue to work great in the future with them. It’s great to bring those people into La Crosse and show them what La Crosse has,” says City of La Crosse Parks Department facilities and marine operations manager Jim Flottmeyer.
City officials say the deal alone will bring $20,000 annually to La Crosse and it may bring in even more revenue from tourism.
“People really enjoy coming down to Riverside Park to see the cruise ships land. It draws great traffic every time one of the big boats is sitting down there. It’s a great way to promote all the tourism around the area of La Crosse. Those people that ride those ships are from all over the world. It’s a great opportunity to showcase La Crosse,” says Flottmeyer.
Between American Cruise Lines and Viking Cruise Lines, La Crosse will have 23 stops on this year’s schedule.
