Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Poster Art Imagines Tom Cruise’s Return In Updated Armor

Tom Cruise returns as Cage with advanced new armor suits in Edge of Tomorrow 2 poster art. Released in 2014 and directed by Doug Liman, the first film follows Cage as he works with Emily Blunt’s Rita to repel an alien invasion of Earth, with the day resetting every time Cruise’s character dies. The film earned generally positive reviews and was a modest success at the box office, and there has since been continued interest in a potential Edge of Tomorrow 2. The sequel, however, has struggled in development, and it’s still not clear if it will actually happen.
Esh-El on Instagram now shares AI-generated poster art imagining Cruise’s armored-up return in Edge of Tomorrow 2. The images all feature different versions of the powered exoskeleton armor from the first film, and all put new sci-fi twists on the design. Several, for example, are clearly inspired by Master Chief’s armor from the Halo franchise. Check out select images from Esh-El’s gallery below:

Any Sequel Would Probably Feature A Time Jump
The Edge of Tomorrow ending largely concludes Cage’s story and Earth is seemingly saved. It’s not entirely clear, then, what a sequel would be about, but the alien invaders from the first film are presumably still out in the universe somewhere. Perhaps a sequel would see Cage, Rita, and other human soldiers taking the fight to the aliens this time, but whatever fight is to come, armor will seemingly play a large role in it.
Related Edge Of Tomorrow’s Omega Explained: Origin, Appearance & Connection To Mimics Edge of Tomorrow sees humanity at war against the Mimics, a powerful alien race whose hive mind and time travel powers are controlled by the Omega.
It’s now been 10 years since Edge of Tomorrow was released, and both Cruise and Blunt have aged and look different now. Any sequel, at this point, would have to feature some kind of time jump from the end of the first film to explain this, and this time jump means an advance in human technology. The exo-suit armor featured in the first film will surely get some upgrades if Edge of Tomorrow 2 does happen, and this could mean even more extreme combat sequences.
Edge of Tomorrow 2 is now more likely following a deal that Cruise made with Warner Bros., the distributor of the original movie.
Our Take On Tom Cruise’s Potential Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Return
Is It Too Late For The Sequel?
Even ten years later, reports continue to emerge stating that Cruise, Blunt, and Liman are still interested in doing an Edge of Tomorrow 2. At a certain point, however, that ship will sail, and it just won’t make sense to revisit a film that was never a smash success in the first place. It could be argued that this ship-sailing moment is here and that it might be best to leave Edge of Tomorrow as a standalone action sci-fi.
That being said, it would still be great to see Cruise and Blunt reunited for a sequel, and it’s likely that any sequel could put fun twists on elements of the original, including its time travel and futuristic technology. Leaning more into the exo-suit armor could also be interesting, as Cruise’s action sequences typically feature him unencumbered by such devices. In any case, it’s clear that interest in Edge of Tomorrow 2 remains, and hopefully more news emerges about the sequel in the near future.
