The brutally honest reason Princess Diana could never date Tom Cruise

Princess Diana and Tom Cruise would have been an incredible power couple, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Darren McGrady, the late monarch’s former royal chef, revealed that Princess Diana wasn’t interested in Cruise because he was “too short.”
McGrady shared the story on his YouTube channel, recalling that Princess Diana received an invitation to the set of “Mission: Impossible,” starring Cruise.
“She came into the kitchen one morning and said, ‘Darren, we’ve had an invite to go and watch the making of ‘Mission: Impossible’ at Pinewood Studios in London, for me to take [Prince] William and [Prince] Harry,’” he said.
The movie was filming in London, and she asked the chef if “the boys would be interested” in going.
He said they would probably enjoy “the pyrotechnics and everything,” and teased Princess Diana that she might enjoy meeting Cruise (she had previously met him briefly at a film premiere in 1992).
McGrady recalled that she later stopped by the kitchen after they visited the set and she declared that William and Harry “absolutely loved it, all those explosions and things.”
That’s when she dropped an important piece of information. “She came in, picked up some fruit, walked out and didn’t say anything,” McGrady recalled. “But as she was walking out, she said ‘That’s another one off the list. He’s too short!’ She’d met Tom Cruise.”
Of course, Cruise was also married to Nicole Kidman at the time, so a date was out of the question regardless of his height.
Cruise has always had a strong relationship with the royals. He and Kidman attended Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997, and years later, he and Prince William have a friendly relationship.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have walked the carpet at the London premiere of “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022 and Cruise attended a London Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner in 2024.
