Disney Cruise Line Splash Pad Updated After Child Injured

The Disney Dream’s splash pad flooring was reportedly replaced, and some elements were removed after a child broke his femur in the play area.
Finding Nemo Splash Pad Changed
Instagram user Courtney Livingston shared that her son broke his femur on the Disney Cruise Line ship’s splash pad during a trip last year. Disney Cruise Line gifted the family a free cruise, and they returned to the Dream, where Livingston checked on the splash pad.
She was surprised to find that Disney Cruise Line had actually made changes, seemingly in response to her son’s injury. The coral fixture he fell on is gone, and the flooring has been replaced.
There were previously four large stool-like coral pieces at the end of the splash pad, under the image of Squirt. Nothing has been installed in their place. The new flooring has a similar wave design to that of before.
The Finding Nemo-inspired splash pad, Nemo’s Reef, is on both the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy. We don’t know if the same changes were made on the Fantasy.
We also don’t know if the removal of the coral is permanent. Disney may reinstall the coral or add different elements after a safety evaluation.
The splash pad is designed for children ages 4 and under, who must be supervised at all times.
The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy also made changes to porthole railings after a child fell from the Dream last fall.
The Disney Dream recently celebrated 15 years of service, having officially been sailing since January 2011.
