State and local officials were urging travelers to use caution on roadways Sunday night as snow accumulated across Massachusetts.
The heaviest snowfall and worst travel conditions began in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, with most areas expecting between 2 and 6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
Crews were in action across the state treating and plowing roadways, according to the state Department of Transportation.
In Boston, more than 400 pieces of equipment were fanned out across the city to treat roads Sunday night, officials said.
“Our crews are out in full force,” the city’s public works department said in a social media post.
Officials urged drivers to use caution and take their time.
Snowfall is expected to taper off between 3 a.m. and 9 a.m. Monday, with some snow showers lingering until noon, according to the National Weather Service.
