▪ On Sunday, senior guard Javi Lopez leapfrogged Tyler Nelson as the most prolific scorer for the Central Catholic boys’ basketball program. With 33 points in a 67-60 victory over BC High, Lopez reached 1,505, surpassing Nelson’s 12-year-old total of 1,486. Heading into Wednesday’s game at Brewster Academy (N.H.), Lopez is 13 points shy of the school’s all-time scoring mark of 1,518, owned by Katie Zenevitch.
“He’s a special player,” Central Catholic coach Mark Dunham said of Lopez. “He allows me to coach him. I coach him hard, he’s the ultimate team guy, and we’re very fortunate to have him.”
▪ Hamilton-Wenham/Manchester Essex freshman gymnast Wren Romiza set a pair of school records in a 137.6-123.1 win over Bishop Fenwick on Sunday, setting a new mark on the beam with a 9.8 and blasting through the 20-year-old all-around record with a 37.4.
▪ On Monday, Argosy Collegiate senior Eric Coward dropped a season-high 40 points in a boys’ basketball win over Codman Academy, giving him 800 career points.
▪ Over the weekend, Saugus/Peabody wrestling captains Michael Maraio (150 pounds) and Jackson Deleidi (132) both recorded their 100th career wins.
▪ Four days after knocking off No. 7 Holland (Burke), New Bedford boys’ basketball was back at it again Tuesday, shocking No. 13 Brockton, 62-60, by rallying from down 9 in the second half. Diego Montanari (19 points) led the offensive attack and Danny Rocha came up with a clutch steal to seal the Big Three victory.
▪ Tyler Comman found Jake Levy with four seconds left in regulation to force overtime, then Josh Benson played hero with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer as Rockland boys’ basketball outlasted Middleborough, 63-62, in a South Shore Sullivan thriller. Will Carpine led all scorers with 21 points.
▪ O’Bryant clawed its way back from down 20 in the third quarter, sending a Boston City League boys’ basketball showdown with TechBoston to OT on senior Mula Norwich’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Junior captain Jackson Farrington (17 points, 11 rebounds) provided tough defense in the extra frame, including a game-saving block to force a second OT and Le’Roy Sulfaro raced for a breakaway layup to seal a 66-61 double-OT win. Norwich finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists.
▪ The Manning brothers came up clutch during Ipswich’s 78-70 triple-OT boys’ basketball win over Hamilton-Wenham. Trevor Manning drilled a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first extra session, then Tanner Manning nailed a 3-pointer in the second OT. Rex Satter provided the dagger in the third OT to finish with 24 points.
Andy Batista, Lynn Tech — The senior amassed 30 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a 96-40 rout of Whittier.
Jerry Brown, Charlestown — The junior posted the highest single-game scoring total as reported to the Globe this season, scoring 49 points in a 93-75 high-flying win over Madison Park.
Margot Bryce Morris, Hamilton-Wenham — The senior captain was scorching hot both Monday and Tuesday, dropping a career-high 30 on Monday to defeat Whittier, 53-30, then following up with 29 in a 55-44 win over Ipswich.
Avery Gamble, Oliver Ames — The senior managed to out-score the entire Sharon team, 28-24, in a 53-24 victory.
Eileen Lowther, Hingham — The juniors run of huge stat lines continued with 15 points, 18 rebounds, and 7 blocks to beat Plymouth North, 50-36.
Celia Neilson, Bishop Fenwick — The senior captain provided a bit of everything with 19 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 7 steals in a 54-29 victory against Central Catholic.
Emma Plante, Joseph Case — Another regular in this space, Plante went triple-double despite losing, 32-25, to West Bridgewater. The senior finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 blocks.
Adrianna Porazzo, Foxborough — A career-high 34 points, thanks to six 3-pointers, from the senior led to a 73-38 annihilation of Attleboro.
Camden Strandberg, Bridgewater-Raynham — The senior had herself a day with 33 points, 15 rebounds, and 2 blocks in a 56-36 Pioneer win over Dartmouth.
Ethan Suhajda, Holliston — The junior forward was everywhere, scoring 21 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing six assists as the Panthers won their eighth in a row, 56-49, over Norwood
The Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association released its fifth annual Divisional All-State teams.
The players were selected via a rigorous process that included nominations from member coaches and statistical and film review. This year saw the addition of a specialist position to recognize kickers, punters, and return men.
For each division, the MHSFCA chose three quarterbacks, three running backs, three receivers, five offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, five linebackers, three defensive backs, an athlete, and a specialist, as well as honorable mentions.

Shawsheen graduate Sid Tildsley, a freshman at Harvard, has been honored by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame with its 2025 Dave Schultz High School Excellence award. He is the first winner from Massachusetts since Aiden Hanning (Northfield Mount Hermon) in 2022.
Tildsley finished his high school career as the all-time winningest wrestler in state history with 245 victories. He was a three-time New England champion, four-time state champion, four-time George Bossi Lowell Holiday Tournament winner, and a three-time All-American.
▪ Bo Ruggiero has reportedly stepped down as Cohasset boys’ basketball coach mid-season, citing personal family health matters.
The Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association and New England Basketball Hall of Famer won 588 games between stops at Medfield, Taunton, Foxborough, and Cohasset. He had been at Cohasset since 2008, winning 265 games and leading the Skippers to the 2011 state title game.
Ruggiero also coached Bridgewater State and Newton Junior College and served as an assistant at Boston College.
▪ Former English High football coach Keith Parker died Saturday after battling esophageal cancer. Parker compiled a 141-168-5 record over 30 seasons before retiring in 2009. He won five City League titles and Division 5B Super Bowls in 1993 and 1997.
▪ Longtime Franklin assistant football coach Mike Bertone, a 1980 alum of the program, died unexpectedly Sunday at his home at age 64.
