The Muppets will soon be making live appearances on Disney Cruise Line, as well as at Disney Parks.
Muppets Setting Sail
A special edition of Time Magazine about the Muppets included an interview between writer Chris Nashawaty and Muppets Studio Vice President Leigh Slaughter.
Slaughter said that fans “want some laughs and a little bit of joy” from the Muppets. “We’re here to make the world a whole lot happier and a little weirder.”
Nashawaty added, “To that end, fans may want to start booking their travel plans for next year, because they’re about to see a lot more of Kermit and company at Disney’s cruise ships and theme parks, including live appearances from the characters on land and sea.” (via Attractions Magazine)
Nashawaty noted that the Muppets are taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios next year. This follows the permanent closure of MuppetVision 3D this summer. The attraction will have “live” Muppets in the form of penguin and Scooter animatronics in the pre-show.
Also at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Kermit and Miss Piggy have appeared live during Disney Holidays in Hollywood, a stage show exclusive to Disney Jollywood Nights. Several Muppets used to appear live at Magic Kingdom as part of The Muppets Present… Great Moments in American History, which ran from 2016 to 2020.
But this is the first indication that live Muppets could appear on Disney Cruise Line ships. The Muppets are featured virtually in the Midship Detective Agency game on the Disney Fantasy. In 2006, they starred as live puppets in the Muppets Ahoy! stage show on the Disney Wonder. The live Muppet show Two Guys and a Few Muppets was performed just twice on the maiden voyage of the Disney Treasure, and the Muppets recapped the ship’s launch in a social media video.
Disney has not made any official announcement regarding live Muppets on Disney Cruise Line.
